There is a lot of small text in this book but it is clever how they have used the Mammoth to pose ideas and questions.
Personally I found it a little silly at times, or even a bit hard to understand how the Mammoth parts sounded but for kids it could get them interested and engaged.
Our son is 3, nearly 4 and he enjoyed hearing about how things work but it was too much text for him I just did key parts of it and read the Mammoth intro's on each page, he really liked the book and listened hard but that is because he is very inquisitive about how things work, I couldn't tell what he thought of the Mammoth's opinions, thoughts and experiments.
I think it is a clever concept for a How To book and the first I've come across like it. I would get it again when our son is older.

I learned so much from this book. I could never quite completely understand how an automatic transmission works but it taught me about everything else from simple machines and computer logic to CD players and nuclear reactions. Almost like a primer on physics it goes through simple machines, light and waves, mechanics and uses lots of practical real world examples.

Very good for any child with a mechanical aptitude or any one who asks how something works. Hand drawn illustrations on about every page with frequent tiny Easter eggs and quips in the drawings.
