HARPERCOLL

October 1991. It was "the perfect storm"--a tempest that may happen only once in a century--a nor'easter created by so rare a combination of factors that it could not possibly have been worse. Creating waves ten stories high and winds of 120 miles an hour, the storm whipped the sea to inconceivable levels few people on Earth have ever witnessed. Few, except the six-man crew of theAndrea Gail, a commercial fishing boat tragically headed towards its hellish center.

As gripping as the movie. A detailed account of the factors that came together to create a monstrous storm that doomed the sailors on the sword fishing boat Andrea Gail in the North Atlantic in October 1991.

Mr. Junger's account of this storm is so vivid; the movie is pale in comparison. My appreciation of the heroic job the Coast Guard does in rescuing people increased dramatically after reading it. I also have a greater appreciation of the people who go to sea in order to provide us with tasty seafood.
