This is an encyclopedic survey of fleece and fibre from sheep to yaks to muskoxen, with information on how best to utilize every type of wool or fibre in weaving, spinning or knitting.

The authors have also written a Field Guide to Sheep, which is a more portable book for fibre enthusiasts who seek to identify the various breeds they see in the field or at a market.

Great books for anyone who values quality fibres.

This book is so awesome! The authors must have done so much work and it is obvious. Very meticulous and professional. Helpful is you are picking out a sheep breed or if you are getting into the fibre arts. Excellent reference for any sheep lover! The photos are lovely and the explanations easy to read and understand

Interesting from many angles. If you want to learn about sheep and other livestock that give wool or hair or fibres, it is great. If you want to try using different fibres for knitting, crochet, or weaving, the details are here. If you want to start with the basic fleece or fibre to turn it into threads and yarns, you learn about that, too. Oh, and there is some description of cross-breeding for many of these animals, too.
