I still don't know who/what was killing the sheep!! There was no ending.

A very good book, written in alternating chapters going back in the story of the young woman. The sheep farming is described in a simple and interesting. The story winds with mysterious characters and environment. I hope that more good books will come from Evie Wyld.

Miles Franklin winner. The structure of this novel is interesting. In alternating chapters, Jake's past is revealed in reverse order while her present is a straightforward narrative. It is quite well done. Wyld takes on Australian misogamy and in the end, it is a story of hard won redemption.

OK. I have to admit that a novel about a sheep farmer living on a bleak island off the coast of England doesn’t sound like a page turner. But what if I tell you that someone (or something) is gruesomely killing her sheep? And aren’t you curious as to why her back is horribly scarred? Wyld has written an eerie, intense novel that will draw you in and keep you riveted until everything is revealed.
