I'm kind of disappointed that the critics are so oblivious to the nature of the book. It's supposed to help kids understand the nature of prejudice, so that they can actually take a stand on it. Maybe their first impressions aren't all that specific, but it's important to make sure the message gets across.

This book is SOOOO stupid. It's making kids question things like, "Should my parents having a house maid who's black be wrong?" I almost couldn't finish this monstrosity of a book. It's wrong and is one of the worse books in Andrew Clements lineup.

This book is not about racism at all !
It is a great book . Very well written and a good story . It explores the differences in the colors and emphasizes our common traits , feelings and just the sameness we have in our general living . And the misconceptions that we could have about how the different colored people live. Well done story. Very good ending .

I didn't like this book because the boy reffered to dark skinned people as "black!" Why would some kids' author include racism in a book for children!
