"New Yorkers aren't easily intimidated, but someone is doing their best to scare them, badly: why? After two inexplicable high-tech attacks, the city that never sleeps is on edge. Detective Michael Bennett, along with his old pal, the FBI's Emily Parker, have to catch the shadowy criminals who claim responsibility--but they're as good at concealing their identities as they are at wreaking havoc. In the wake of a shocking assassination, Bennett begins to suspect that these mysterious events are just the prelude to the biggest threat of all. Soon he's racing against the clock, and against the most destructive enemy he's faced yet, to save his beloved city--before everyone's worst nightmare becomes a reality."--

I found this book boring. I finally had to give up by page 130, and close it. I certainly do not recommend it to other readers.

Conclusion was a let down.

This was a fast read. Because James Patterson is writing with so many authors now he is churning books out fairly quickly and they don't seem to be as good as his earlier works. However, this was a fairly good read.

I love James Patterson and I also mostly enjoy his collaborations, but this story...I just couldn't find myself interested in the storyline. I like mysteries...not so big on terrorism themes...the only part I wanted to know anything at all about was the personal story of the main character and so I literally skipped around thru the book and read only those parts and skipped thru to read the end and I NEVER EVER do that! I can't recommend Alert and again, I am a huge fan of James Patterson and it sad to even write this! I was glad I didn't force myself to read the entire story. I like books I can't put down and this book I kept putting down. :(

Nowadays James Patterson's books are all the same with no thrills anymore. Plus, how does he write, like, 7 books alone in 2015?! His books aren't that good anymore, they're just always about murder and mystery, a detective case. His books are really predictable now.

First James Patterson novel that I read. Interesting story. Learn about New York history and geography in the process.

I've read all the Michael Bennet books, but I had trouble getting thru this one. It just didn't keep me interested for some reason. I enjoy Michael, Mary Catherine, Seamus, and the kids but I find myself becoming disinterested in the bad guy aspect of these books. (I think I've been reading too many detective/suspense books lately and am in need of good family drama.)

Although James Patterson is easily one of my favorite authors, I'm sorry to say that I was rather disappointed with this book. It was increasingly macabre & depressing and finally about halfway through, I completely lost interest & gave up. Not Patterson's best by a long shot.
