Concerns the role and limits of boundaries separating scholarly departments or areas of study as these apply to the analysis of international life. Specifically, the contributors political scientists from Canadian, Japanese, and American institutions address two kinds of boundaries: those between disciplines, especially in the social sciences, and the boundaries dividing distinct theoretical schools or research traditions (for example, neo-realism, pluralism, and constructivism) which vie for supremacy as paradigms in the study of international life.
