The authors define values as "higher-order evaluative standards associated with desirable means and ends of action." They present papers that look a ways to view values in relation to perceptions of fairness in organizations and explore work-related values, their antecedents, and consequences. Theoretical papers examine the definition and classification of values, the relationship of identity to fairness perceptions, and how values and norms affect the way people construe events. The rest of the papers are more oriented towards applications in organizations considering such topics as links between values and emotion, the role of values in leadership, and individual differences in values.
