Book News
This volume contains a mix of writings--some excerpts by Turing, but mostly writings about him and his work by those who understand his genius and his legacy. The writings include first person narratives of what he was like and what it was like to work with him, personal accounts of career-changing encounters with his thinking, and commentary on particular aspects of his work. This is an unusual compendium that complements the Collected Works of Alan M. Turing; in fact, it includes an afterword recounting the convoluted history of that publication. The editors are affiliated as follows: S. Barry Cooper (math, U. of Leeds, UK) and Jan Van Leeuwen (information and computing sciences, Utrecht U., the Netherlands). They had originally thought that part of their task would include assembling a thorough bibliography but luckily found that one already had been meticulously prepared and so refer readers to that website.
