Jack McColl, a spy for His Majesty's Secret Service, is stationed in India, charged with defending the Empire against Bengali terrorists and their German allies. In England, suffragate journalist Caitlin Hanley is rebuilding her life after the execution of her brother - an IRA sympathizer whose terrorist plot was foiled by Caitlyn's ex-lover, the very same Jack McColl. The threat of a rising in Dublin alarms McColl's bosses as much it dazzles Caitlin. If another Irish plot brings them back together, will it be as enemies or lovers?

It was an entertaining read but it often felt as if the thoughts and beliefs of the characters were a little too omniscient as to the outcomes of political events that were unfolding around them. I did not find a single instance where a character's thinking and opinions about the future impact of historical events was not spot-on. It felt as if the author was trying to force in historical outcomes and parallels and which, while accurate, ultimately detracted from the narrative style.

Really enjoyed, it captured segments of eras in India, England & Ireland far better than expected. Character development was natural, rather than superficial. Narrative was fluid, no hitches in pace or thought. Will look for more by this author.
