This is a 1943 war-time drama directed by the Austrian director Fritz Lang, loosely based on the 1942 assassination of Reinhard Heydrich---the Nazi Reich Protector of German-occupied Prague, number-two man in the SS, and a chief architect of the Holocaust, who was known as "The Hangman of Prague."
The real Heydrich was assassinated by Czech resistance fighters parachuted from a British plane in Operation Anthropoid.
In the movie, however, a member of the Czech resistance with ties to the Communist Party is the assassin since the full story had NOT become public knowledge at the time.
Although the drama seems like tragedies on both sides, it is actually a caricature and I laughed to death in the near end.
But the film clearly shows you that it does NOT end as it ends.
It is a well-crafted and highly entertaining piece you would really enjoy to the hilt.

worth watching with some good acting though somewhat complicated plot. interesting to see the judge from miracle on 49th street as a bad guy

Classic WWII story with actual events as a backdrop. I needed to watch it twice to get all the intricate details of the plot. These older films rely on good acting and plot development to make them special. Very satisfying.
