When Germany invaded Poland in 1939, Europeans realized that Adolf Hitler would not be content until he controlled the entire continent. Britain declared war on Germany soon after. As Britain prepared to enter the war, thousands of British children were evacuated from their city homes to rural areas and overseas, where they would be safe from German attacks.
