Prior to dramatic economic developments in the 1940s, the Mexican economy was largely based on agriculture. Many Mexicans produced goods such as clothing and pottery using traditional methods that had been handed down over generations. The country's industrialization following World War II, however, led to the rise of a new Mexican middle class.
