Church Committee Hears Testimony on Shellfish Toxins Ca. 1975

Unknown - 1975
Rate this:
In 1974, New York Times journalist Seymour Hersh wrote a series of articles alleging that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) conducted illegal domestic operations over its entire existence, including break-ins, intercepting and opening mail, and wire tapping U.S. citizens. The Senate formed a committee, led by Frank Church (D-ID), to investigate these allegations. Over its 15-month investigation, the Church Committee found that the CIA had attempted to destabilize Salvador Allende's government in Chile and to assassinate the Cuban president, Fidel Castro. In its first televised hearing the Church Committee heard testimony about the CIA's secret supply of shellfish toxin - enough to kill approximately 55,000 people.
