During the 1960s and 1970s, young people became increasingly disillusioned with what they believed was an overemphasis on competition and materialism in American society. The New Games Foundation, which was founded in the 1970s, invented noncompetitive games that could be played to foster trust and cooperation. Over the next three decades, such team-building activities became increasingly popular in the workplace.
