The Apollo program was undertaken by the National Aeronautics and Science Administration (NASA) in order to fulfill President John F. Kennedy's pledge to put a human being on the moon by the end of the 1960s. After the first lunar landing of the Apollo 11 spacecraft, NASA launched several additional lunar expeditions.
