Ranger 9 Sends Pictures of the Moon to Earth Ca. 1965Unknown - 1965
Between 1965 and 1969 the National Aeronautical and Space Administration (NASA) launched Ranger rockets to the moon to take pictures of the surface and send them back to Earth before crash landing. NASA used these unmanned spaceflights to better understand the lunar terrain in preparation for an eventual manned mission to the moon. On March 24, 1965, Ranger 9 sent these pictures moments before impacting the lunar surface.
