I enjoy Mary Balogh's work, especially when I'm in the mood for a (mildly) formulaic Regency romance with plucky characters. I think I've read this twice and each time, I have to re-read the first half again. You'll understand why once you pick up this delightful novella.
A very simple story
I love all her books
If you love historical romance, and you think you can't bear to read one more book with the arranged marriage plot setup -- read this one. I won't say too much about it, other than that I loved both protagonists, and while I guessed the ending quite early in the book, I enjoyed reading it all the more for appreciating Balogh's cleverness and her careful consideration of each word. You can read this short book in one sitting -- and you'll thoroughly enjoy it.
I really loved this book! Not your usual cookie-cutter plot!
A fast read, since it's a novella. But wow! This is the kind of book you have to read twice. And possibly more
in this novella, Balogh rises above her story formula and gives an intriguing example of the British social system
I really liked this book. Set in the 1800s in England, one of my very favourite times to read about. A real twist in the tale.
A very sweet tale with an enchanting plot twist! Not her usual storytelling which was very refreshing.
