This report reviews the practices of the countries of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe during the 2000 round of population and housing censuses in order to compare the different approaches and practices adopted for taking into account the UNECE Census Recommendations developed for 2000 as such information may prove useful in comparing the results in different countries. The report first deals with census methodology and technology, including operational and organizational aspects of census taking, and then discusses the general degree of compliance of the practices concerning place of usual residence, total population, other geographic characteristics, international and internal migration, demographic and ethno-cultural characteristics, household and family characteristics, economic characteristics, educational characteristics, and housing topics.
