Set against the backdrop of a UNSC military academy, a group of highborn cadets are training to be the next generation of soldiers in the UNSC's ongoing war with insurrectionists in the outer colonial planets. Among these cadets, Thomas Lasky struggles with his doubts about this war, and with the burden of expectations he may not be able to carry. As Lasky comes to terms with his potential as a military leader, the terrifying alien alliance known as the Covenant arrives and turns his world upside down. Inspired by the Master Chief, he must decide what it means to be a hero.

As a Halo fan, I had to watch this. Great series (or movie, whichever it is since it has a part one and two) I must say, and I enjoyed it, especially the latter parts. Although at some points it gets boring, it is worth the watch as the ending portion is where the action is concentrated. The main character is Agent Lasky who is still in training. As the planet comes under attack by the covenant, the Master Chief fights alongside the cadets to fight the aliens. One qualm I have about this movie was the lack of covenant shown. I would’ve enjoyed it if there were more fight scenes between the humans and the aliens.

It was a bit hard to understand as I watched this Halo series out of sequence: Nightfall (2014) about ONI Commander Locke and Colonel Aiken; The Fall of Reach (2015) on some six-year olds recruited to train in the first class of Spartans, and now this Forward Unto Dawn (2012) on the cadet days of Commander Lasky with his brief but intense encounter with Master Chief (John-117). Next on my list is Halo Legends (2010.) Understand there is another Halo tie-in Helljumper (2012) which is hard to find and not on netflix. (See library links in Summary to the other Halo DVDs.)

This movie was entertaining and interesting but not one of my favorite for this year. Not too bad---good performance.

Get outside, lose weight by playing real games not video games. Its turning your brain to mush and making you vote for the wrong guy.

I have to admit I wasn't thinking this would be very good but it actually is not too bad for a video game made into a movie

Need to play Halo to understand this movie.
