Some of these personal stories are imagined from Alice Munro's family history. Some are set in Scotland, where good liquor and amorous adventures temper the hard lives of legendary forbears in a place described by local records as having "no advantages." Others take place in the more familiar Munro territory around Lake Huron. All will amaze and delight listeners with their rich insights and astonishing epiphanies.

A very well read selection of the stories. I hated how the discs did not say how long each story was (the first was one and three quarters discs long) because it made it difficult to budget one's time to listen to them. I most enjoyed the last two stories, whilst the first was too long and caught up in minutia.

How I wish the producers of this audio book had hired a reader able to handle a Scottish accent - as many of the characters are Scottish. Her attempts were so painful to listen to that I couldn't finish the book.
