Police Inspector Thomas Pitt, investigating the judge's death, is drawn into the sensational murder, because it appears the judge was about to reopen the earlier case. Add a CommentFor those who like the victorian background and low tech murder mystery gendre, this is a fun read but the author is playing with some very serious themes in 'jew hating' victorian England. I did not feel she treats the implications of the Victorian prejudices with any kind of analysis in hindsight and misses the opportunity to make her murder mystery tales socially relevant for this century. For this reason I think the book is disturbing and I would not recommend it to most readers except as an example of poor writing.
