Second in the series is a good plot greatly hampered by excessive detail during the caper. Somewhat archaic language, the word boodle is actually used twice. Parker is a good study for a crime novel series which allows the reader to be on the wrong side of the law and involved in "heists." Humphrey Bogart or Burt Lancaster would have been happy to play him, just hope Stark/Westlake tones down the painful details, "left front fender by the Fords right front fender", adds nothing to the scene unless you are writing script details for a movie.
This is superior crime writing. Richard Stark, AKA Donald Westlake produced a masterful series with Parker. All of them are great.
Three story lines here....
A heist: Decent story...nothing special
Stubbs: The doctor's bodyguard: Awesome story fast paced and interesting
The Outfit: Continued storyline of Parker evading the outfit keeps the series interesting
Worth reading if you like the Parker series which I do. 3.5 stars overall.
