Presented by Kultur International through their "Impressionists" series - This brief 50-minute bio-documentary takes a fast-track look at the life and artistic career of Georges Pierre Seurat.

Born (1859) in Paris, France - Georges Seurat was a gifted, European artist who is noted for being the inventor of "Pointillism" (an artistic technique where small, distinct dots of colour are applied in pattern onto the canvass to form an image).

Through interviews with art historians we learn how Seurat's work had been a clear influence on the Cubist movement of the early 20th century.

*Note* - Georges Seurat (31 at the time) died in 1891 of unknown causes.

French artist, Georges Seurat is regarded, far & wide, as an important icon of 19th century painting.

Seurat was a painter who clearly had a deep passion for logical abstraction.

As you will see in this brief, but informative bio-documentary - Seurat's paintings often had an extreme yet delicate sensibility that is very appealing to the eye.

The commentary is pedantic and repetitive. Not the best DVD on art appreciation.

There must be something wrong with the electronic cataloging of this item (a DVD about Seurat) since it seems meshed with, at least in the comment feature with others in the same series.
The audio coming from the art historians is rather weak and one has to blast the volume to hear them at moments.
About the artist though, this is better than most. It explains his brief life (died at 31 years) and his theory of colour perception. Many of the other paintings he made shortly before his death are dealt with. His preparations, which were numerous, for his most famous work ('Afternoon on...') are unfortunately only alluded to briefly.

Though he lived a short life, Seurat fulfilled his potential as an artistic giant. This survey points out the subtleties in his developments.

Good DVD for information. Can get a little boring at times, though...
