Stolen Innocence

My Story of Growing Up in a Polygamous Sect, Becoming a Teenage Bride, and Breaking Free of Warren Jeffs

The FLDS may be the most notorious polygamist sect in North America. What proceeds in this book is the story of a courageous young woman who refused to be brainwashed by the cult. Forced into a child marriage at 14, Elissa Wall understood what was happening to her was rape, no more or less. The book delves into the politics that govern the cult's operations in rural Utah as well as in British Columbia, including how "prophet" Warren Jeffs put together and ripped apart families by his mere say so. How Jeffs was ultimately brought to justice is treated here, as well as Wall's dramatic testimony against him. The sect may finally be falling apart without firm leadership as Jeffs is serving a life sentence, but this is only after so much heartbreak as well as orchestrated brainwashing. The overriding message is clear - stay true to your beliefs, fight back and don't let anyone push you around.
