The Bad Beginning is a very well written book by Lemony Snicket. The book focuses on the lives of the three Baudelaire siblings, Klaus, Violet and Sunny after a tragic fire has their parents snatched from them. They are out of luck and despite being incredibly wealthy they must go and live with their wicked fourth cousin three times removed. Left with no choice they must live with him until Violet comes to age to inherit their family wealth. Count Olaf is a sinister man, who has no intentions to treat the children like family, he merely adopts them for a chance to gain their wealth. All three characters show unique skills and talents that they use to help them deal with Olaf. The book appealing to children from many age groups and is relatable for lots of kids. Some children will love the character of Klaus, who is passionate about reading, and loves to read about just any topic he can. While other children will love to read about Violet, a teenage girl who is amazing at creating inventions. My favorite character in this book was Sunny, the youngest of the three siblings, who is only two years old but shows she has a great personality and loves to bite objects. Reading this book was really fun for me as I read it after watching the movie. and I can honestly say the movie was not as good as the book. If I had to rate this book out of ten I would give it around and 8.5. Anyone who is committed to reading a great children's fantasy series should follow A Series Of Unfortunate Events.
