Tess Monaghan is back, and Tyner Gray asks her and her partner, Sandy Sanchez, to act as consultants for an old girl friend of his, Melisandre Harris Dawes. The character depth in this book is amazing. It is not clear, anymore than it is in life, what motives Melisandre, her daughters, and ex-husband have for their actions. Although we see parts of the action from the viewpoint of various participants, we are not certain who has done what and to whom--and that includes some notes that Tess herself receives. Are they involved in Melisandre's drama or are they a separate thread? I was riveted to the last page.
