Updike brings his Rabbit series to an unimpressive, uninspired conclusion with "Rabbit at Rest." It's an appropriate title as it might make you sleepy. I know Rabbit is supposed to be an everyman, but is everyman synonymous with a bland, unlikable character? This is considered possibly his crowning achievement and maybe it was a big deal when it came out, but these books have not aged well at all and are due for reassessment.
