Having taught all four of my children to read, I think the Mr. Putter and Tabby books are my favorite early-reader books. They are witty enough for adults to enjoy while still being simple enough for children to understand. They don't go on and on with nonsensical rhymes or painfully childish stories. My daughters, age 12 and 10, still read them when their little brother checks them out.
